AMS present AMRC – Preston

Project Overview: AMRC Research Centre, Preston

It often begins with a vision—a cutting-edge research and development facility integral to propelling the UK’s advanced manufacturing sector into the future. That vision spawned the creation of AMRC North West, a pivotal £20m project set in Samlesbury, Preston. The objective was clear: offer businesses key productivity and sustainability enhancements.

Precision and Aesthetic: The Cladding and Roofing Challenge

From the sleek offices that welcome visitors, to the sprawling workshop spaces at the back, each area of AMRC demanded unique solutions, both functional and aesthetic. The challenge was entrusted to AMS Cladding, known for their meticulous attention to detail and comprehensive project management capabilities. Our mandate was not just to install but to innovate, ensuring the R&D facility’s exterior supported its high-tech purpose.

Function Meets Form: Office Exterior Solutions

For the front-facing office sections, our solution was a sophisticated rainscreen cladding system using Solid Aluminium Hook-On Rainscreen Cladding (Tiger Drylac 68/90177). This system was not merely for visual appeal; it was designed to optimise thermal efficiency, critical in reducing building energy costs. Each panel, attached to a Support Grid System and insulated with 200mm thick Rockwool Rainscreen Duo Slab, contributed to a facade that was as efficient as it was striking.

In tandem with the wall system, the flat roofing over the offices was another area of our expertise. It incorporates a BMI Icopal Limited Roofing System with Thermaweld (Charcoal) Torch Applied Cap Sheet. This is fortified with a Total Torch Vapour Dispersion Underlay and 120mm Thermazone Torch On Flat Insulation, integrating a vapour barrier for enhanced moisture control. This roofing not only supports daily operations but houses an array of solar PV panels, underscoring the sustainability goals of the AMRC.

Robust and Reliable: Workshop Wall and Roof Cladding

Transitioning to the workshop area, the requirements shifted towards durability and robust environmental protection. Here, AMS Cladding implemented insulated profiled wall sheets featuring 0.7mm thick 13.5/3 Sinusoidal Profiled Wall Sheets in Plastisol (Sirius RAL 9006) Coated Steel. With a Spacer Bar & Bracket System paired with 200mm thick Insulation Quilt and a 0.4mm thick 19/1000 Standard Profile Bright White Steel Liner Sheet, this system promises superior insulation and longevity.

The roof of the workshop mirrors this durability in its structure. A comprehensive built up cladding system, with elements like the 0.7mm thick 32/1000 Forward Profile Plastisol Coated Steel Outer Sheets and the eco-friendly Spacer Bar & Bracket System with 260mm thick Insulation Quilt, creates a protective barrier that’s tough and thermally efficient.
